I'm determined to stop writing about Trump. The whole Trump thing is just too sad and he's too easy to criticize. Yet with the news, not yet verified I should point out, that Trump is being blackmailed by Russia raises an interesting question. Something I'm just wondering about.

Can an elected official, who has not been sworn in, be impeached?

I asked this on Quora and so far the answer seems to be no. But I'm not so sure. Of course, this will not happen to Donald Trump. Even if he is being bribed by Russia and helping Russia because of that, which I must point out is not verified and may not be true, this accusation cannot be proven in the next week.

The question remains though, if it were proven as being likely and if there were time, could he be impeached? I think the answer is yes because he is an elected official even though he has not taken office yet. But it is debatable.

This also brings up an interesting second question that is about Trump. If the evidence that Russia is blackmailing him does grow, will the republican Congress impeach him? The quick answer would be absolutely no. They are not going to impeach one of their own. Maybe, but if they can get him out of the way fast, I think they might do it. They might impeach him because then Mike Pence would become president, who I think they would be much happier with.

I think every Republican in Congress would be happier with Pence than with Trump, and they might not be inclined to fight too hard to help help. Then to make this even more interesting, I think Democrats would rather have Trump than Pence simply because Trump will be easier to obstruct. So do Democrats fight for Trump not to be impeached? Probably not, not if there is evidence strong against him. But they probably will not help the Republicans do it.

It will be interesting.
